The Future for hedgehogs
The future for African Pygmy Hedgehogs is not as bright as it once was. Human disturbances towards wild hedgehogs can cause the population numbers to dwindle as time moves on. One factor of human interaction is the creation of urban establishments. From roads to factories to full communities, hedgehogs are being forced out of natural habitats. Along with the habitats themselves, the resources necessary for survival are being destroyed. In addition, everyday items can also be posing a threat to the lives of hedgehogs. It has been seen that certain chemicals used for lawn services are harmful and even deadly when a hedgehog comes into contact with them. While there is not a large concern of endangerment, if human disruptions continue, the number of existing African Pygmy Hedgehogs will begin to decrease greatly.
